Plagiarism

What is plagiarism?

From what I've learned and read, plagiarism is stolen someone ideas without proper acknowledgement. From the picture above we can conclude that the ideas or information in 2012 are recycled again in 2016. That are called plagiarism. 

It not only in Uitm student, (include me, honestly) but it is global phenomenon. There are a lot out there that do plagiarism. Why this phenomenon happen? Is that because of poor language skill? because of student are not get caught when they do plagiarism? student are not confident enough when they do work by their own word? well, I will leave this question for you.. Everyone have their thought on it. 

Let's move to the type of plagiarism. 

Actually, there are so many type of plagiarism. Let's check it one by one, and ask yourself whether have you done one of it or you do a lot of it? hehe

The first one Copy and Paste. I think everybody was expert on it. What I understand about copy and paste are,  someones that copy all the information that they need for their assignment or homework that he or she get from the internet and paste on their paper work without paraphrasing and cited the source of information. 

Secondly, paraphrasing too closely. The information that they get are not properly paraphrasing by using their own words. But, they only change some word on it. That also we called plagiarism.

Other than that, Self-plagiarism. From what I understand, it happen when you recycle back your work from your previous study, maybe it is from diploma or matriculation. When your lecturer give you an assignment to do, and then you recognize that the topic was the same as your previous study. Then you think, it was an opportunity to used back your previous work. Therefore, you are actually self-plagiarism.

Moreover, collusion is also one of plagiarism. Collusion is when you get the ideas within a group. Okay, let's make an example to clarify this. Collusion is when your lecturer give assignment, and that assignment are individually, not by group work. But you then discuss with your friend about that assignment, and everyone collaborated to give idea and information. Then you and your friend submit the assignment with the same idea and information from the discuss that you have make with your friend. That also plagiarism. To simplify it was like sharing the information with your friend. 

Undeserved attribution. When there are group work, one of your friend are not give their contribution for the project, but finally you give a credit for he or she. That are plagiarism. Okay, sincerely I dint know if we give credit to someone that not give contribution are plagiarism. Thanks Dr. Krish for this knowledge. 

wow, I write a lot here (feel proud of myself), now there are a lot of programmed that can detect any plagiarism. One of my University do was every student must submit their written assignment or project to the Turnitin. This programmed can detect the similarity of your work with other source. Therefore, girl and guy, be careful and think twice when you do plagiarism. 

Actually, there a lot type of plagiarism, for more understanding maybe you can read other source okay dear, and once again think twice before you do plagiarism, maybe you not get caught by your lecturer or somebody else, but please remember your God are watching you. :)
